The Girl Behind the Bicycle!

Didn't you just love the "Sweet Ride" picture on the closing page of the Spring/Summer issue of Flea Market Style?

The fabulous vintage picnic tin, the fender of a great vintage bike and the hint of a cool '40s dress!

But didn't it make you wonder, "Who is that gal behind the picture?!"

Meet Nebraskan Madison Matheny, 16 years old, amateur model and veteran swell gal, whose mom, Cammie, is an FMS team member!

We thought you'd enjoy a brief Q and A with Madison, who was photographed by the talented Annie McCorkindale!

(As well as a close-up of Madison's great smile!)

Q: How did you pick the dress you are wearing?
A: Picked by my mom from a junk store in Lyons, Neb. By luck it was a perfect fit for me!

Q: Do you actually ride a bike very often?
A: These days not as often, but when I was younger I loved to ride around the farm. I'd circle the house a million times!

Q: When you were younger? You're not that old!
A: I'm 16. Woo hoo! A sophomore at a small high school in Laurel, Neb., with about 200 kids.

Q: What's your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
A: I'm a total junkie for books. I love to read!

Q: Are you a junk junkie, too?
A: Yes, in a way! I like helping look for junk and the end product. My least favorite part of the process is cleaning all your finds. Then again, who likes to clean?!
Q: What have you learned from your parents about junking?
A: So much, but probably the most important is that if you work hard you can do whatever you want; you can make anything possible. Oh, and of course, that one man's junk is another man's treasure!

Q: Is there anything special you learned from this photo shoot?
A: That taking pictures is always easier with a fantastic photographer!

Q: What do you want to do once you get a "real job"?
A: Something with design. I love making something your own and looking at the final product, knowing that you made something unique.

Ah, and with that answer, we know Maddy is already a bona fide member of the Flea Market Style faithful, where making something one's own is the name of the game!

She is adorable. A girl after my own heart, 40's style and bicycle. Hope we see more of her around and about.
